Hiking to Perolniyoc Waterfall
The Perolniyoc Waterfall is a lesser-known sight in the Sacred Valley, just outside of Ollantaytambo. Travelers come here to admire the pristine beauty of the falls – this is a bit more off the beaten path, giving you the chance to experience a natural wonder without crowds. At the top of the canyon, you’ll also get to see the Inca ruins of Raqaypata.

This tour begins with an 8 AM pick-up from your Cusco hotel, followed by a 90-minute drive to the town of Ollantaytambo, where you’ll stop to get some snacks to sustain yourself on your hike. It takes just another 25 minutes to reach the village of Socma. From there, you’ll begin your hike to the ruins; along the way, your guide will tell you the purpose of the site’s warehouses and strategic location. It takes about an hour to hike to Raqaypata.
After you’ve explored the ruins, you’ll hike down through the lush vegetation and try to catch sight of endemic birds. Once you reach the bottom, you’ll have an excellent view of its 328-foot (100-m) cascade. If you’d like to cool off from your hike, you’re free to take a dip in the plunge pool’s clear waters.
On the return journey, you’ll stop in Urubamba to have lunch. This will be a leisurely, traditional Peruvian meal followed by some time to relax. Afterward, your driver will drop you off back at your hotel in Cusco.
