A Family Journey of a Lifetime

A Family Journey of a Lifetime

Anywhere made this so easy! No glitches in our travels at all. From the hike to Machu Picchu to speeding through sand dunes in a buggy, the entire experience was out of this world.

An unforgettable family vacation…

Our family was looking forward to this trip for the longest time. We wanted to hike Machu Picchu and experience all of the awesome sites with our 15-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son. We’re all good hikers and were looking for some adventure. We took a 2-days/1-night excursion that is the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. I will never forget this day! Amazing 14 km (8.7 mi) of hiking. When we got to the Sun Gate I cried. It felt like I had found heaven! This was a great alternative to hiking the entire Inca Trail!

Unbelievable views of the Nazca Lines…

My son was fascinated with the tour to see the Nazca Lines. It was an amazing flight and the Nazca Lines were more visible than we expected. We also took a culinary tour in Cusco and loved that we did this after Machu Picchu. It was a great low-key day. The entire family loved this experience.

An experience I’d recommend to anyone…

I would also recommend the dune buggy ride. This experience was amazing! When I planned it I did not think the dune buggy ride would be that exciting but was excited to sandboard. It was a phenomenal experience going over the crest of very steep dunes, one after another. Unforgettable! Sandboarding was tame in comparison to the ride. It was a great way to end our Peruvian Adventure.

Cusco

Nestling in the dip of the Watanay River Valley, from above the city of Cusco takes the shape of a puma, which some historians theorize was a purposeful design. As the city expands, its borders creep up the sides of the surrounding mountains, but puma statues, fountains, and signs keep the big cat’s status of unofficial city mascot.

The Sacred Valley

The first inhabitants of the Sacred Valley treasured this land not only for its dramatic landscapes and sweeping vistas—the Sacred Valley also offered ample opportunities for agriculture, and had plentiful water just beyond the reaches of the parched desert. Its fertility was the result of a sunny climate and the Río Urubamba coursing through the valley.

Pisac Market

With both ancient and modern attractions, the charming colonial town of Písac has truly earned its place on the map. It lies 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Cusco on the Urubamba River in the Sacred Valley. It’s at the base of a mountain that houses the spectacular Inca Písac Fortress.

Inca Trail

Trek the Inca Trail and arrive at Machu Picchu at the end of a memorable journey. The Inca Trail covers 24 miles (39 km) through the mountains above the Sacred Valley. Much of the Inca Trail is paved with stones put in place by the Inca. This trail will take you through cloud forests – rare environments dense with jungle growth and mist. You’ll see many different types of delicate orchids, and experience the biodiversity that only a humid jungle can produce.

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is the bucket-list tourist attraction and the highlight of many peoples’ trip to Peru; the vastness, location and detail of the ruins make it unmissable. Without a doubt this is the crown jewel of Peruvian ruins.

Nazca Lines

Known by professionals as “geoglyphs,” the Nazca Lines always provoke a strong reaction in visitors to the area. Giant illustrations of plants and animals spread out over 280 square miles (450 km) of desert plateau in Peru’s southern lowlands. No one has yet proposed a compelling explanation for their placement or their location. There are approximately 70 designs—the most famous and frequently photographed of these designs are the monkey, the spider, and the hummingbird. Other illustrations depict fish, killer whales, lizards, and sharks. Some of the designs have dimensions as large as 660 feet (220 m).
