It’s not the first time we traveled abroad. We always put our trips together and make our own plans, but this Belize vacation far exceeded our expectations!
Why this trip was so magical…
We always put our trips together and make our own plans. This time, we went with Anywhere and let them make suggestions, which I'm so glad we did. Cahal Pech resort was a nice hub for us to go on all the excursions we booked. The staff was friendly and the location is just right — across the street from the Cahal Pech archaeological site, which made it easy to visit. The people in town were always friendly to us when we walked around the town. They offered suggestions and gave directions to things we might like.
The highlight of this trip…
One of the highlights of the trip was the private catamaran tour at Ambergris Caye. The crew was attentive, helpful, friendly, and really made sure we had a wonderful time. The trip to Actun Tunichil Muknal tour far exceeded our expectations. We came back still talking about ATM. I would say the excursion is a bit more than average in difficulty, more on the order of advanced difficulty, but we never felt it was beyond our capabilities.
Anywhere made trip planning so simple.
It was really the best to know that everything was under control and we had someone to call on should things not go as planned. BUT, everything went as planned and it was better than expected! Thank you, Rodrigo, for putting our trip together and following through. We had an unBelizable time!

San Ignacio
San Ignacio, often referred to as Cayo, is a laid back town in the western foothills of the Mayan Mountains. Located right along the Western Highway, San Ignacio is popular among travelers as it provides modern tourist amenities while retaining its authenticity. The town sits directly on the meandering Macal River and is surrounded by green rolling hills where adventure awaits.

Ambergris Caye
Ambergris Caye is Belize’s largest island and the most well known destination in Belize. Located at the northern end of Belize’s waters, a small channel dug by the Maya separates Ambergris Caye from Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. The narrow, 25-mile (40-km) long island is surrounded by the Caribbean’s aquamarine waters and consists of mangroves, lagoons, and the laid back town of San Pedro, which sits upon a low sandy plateau near the southern end of the island.

Xunantunich
Home to the second largest Mayan pyramid in Belize, Xunantunich is one of the most impressive Mayan sites in Belize. The site is composed of three major ceremonial plazas surrounded by numerous temples, palaces, and house mounds. Xunantunich is located 8 miles (13 km) southwest of San Ignacio on the Western Highway.

Barton Creek Cave
Barton Creek Cave is one of the most fascinating wet caves in Belize. A tour of Barton Creek Cave involves gently paddling a two-man canoe across the cave’s still water, guided only by headlamps that light up the intricate stalactites and stalagmites that make up the limestone walls. It is one of the few wet caves in Belize where exploring doesn’t require swimming or tubing. Please note that the cave ceiling is quite low in places, and all visitors should be comfortable in dark.

Actun Tunichil Muknal
Actun Tunichil Muknal is a cave that the Mayans used for ceremonial purposes, dating back to around 900 AD. According to Maya lore, Actun Tunichil Muknal (known locally as “ATM”) connects the world of the living to Xibalba, the Maya underworld. This cave served as the site of human sacrifice – archeologists have uncovered the remains of 6 children and several adults inside the cave. Historians speculate that the Maya intended these sacrifices to appease the gods of the underworld.

Hol Chan
The quick ride out to Hol Chan Marine Reserve makes this the most popular half-day tour for visitors staying at Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker. Set aside in 1987, this reserve covers an area of 3 square miles (7.8 sq km) and is found off the southern tip of Ambergris Caye. As a result, this area of the Belize Barrier Reef supports healthy populations of fish and colorful coral. Turtles, nurse sharks, grouper, jacks, reef fish, and barracuda are just a few of the species you might see here. The reef ranges from 10–30 feet (3–9 m) deep and most guides take snorkelers along the outer edge of the reef. While this site is great for beginner snorkelers, as well as divers, swimmers should pay attention to currents which can be strong throughout the reserve.
