Casa Gangotena
Casa Gangotena is a boutique hotel in Quito. The hotel has lovely rooms in the heart of Quito’s historic district.
The historic district, which is known as Old Town, unfolds around Plaza Grande. From here you can visit impressive churches, restored colonial buildings, museums, and theaters. If you have time, make your way to La Compañía, a church that is thought to be one of the most beautiful in all the Americas. Once you’ve had your fill of history, head over to Avenida Amazonas to find restaurants, cafés, shops, and bars. This is the newer part of Quito and has lots of helpful traveler services.
Casa Gangotena is a boutique hotel situated in a newly restored mansion overlooking Plaza San Francisco. The three-story hotel has colonial charm, modern designs, and fine furnishings. The hotel invites relaxation and restoration, whether it’s in the dining room, patio, garden, library, or third-floor terrace.
Due to the property’s historic heritage, the rooms vary in size. All, however, benefit from the mansion’s tall ceilings and big windows. Rooms are decorated with rich carpets and art-deco furniture, including armoires, tables, and desks. All rooms have air conditioning and an en-suite bathroom (most have separate bathtubs and showers). Furthermore, the rooms are equipped with a telephone, wireless Internet, and a flat-screen TV with international cable channels. On the ground floor are two rooms that open onto the garden. Other rooms have a balcony that overlooks the garden.
Every afternoon the hotel offers tea on either the covered patio or in the restaurant. More than five varieties of tea are offered, including infusions made with fresh herbs from the hotel’s garden. Appetizers accompany this daily ritual, including scones, mini sandwiches, and empanadas.
Casa Gangotena’s restaurant celebrates Ecuadorian cuisine. A breakfast buffet is offered to guests each morning. This includes a variety of eggs, cheese, meat, fruit, cereal, bread, juice, coffee and tea. A different menu is offered every day of the week for lunch, with culinary styles that sample the various regions of Ecuador. The dinner options are equally delicious and often include items purchased within the neighborhood.
