While in Quito, there are a number of things to do. You’ll want to visit the historic district known as Old Town, which hosts a colonial cathedral and other impressive buildings. At the centrally located Parque La Carolina, you can go paddle boating or visit the botanical gardens. If you want to see what the city looks like from above, head to El Panecillo—this is a hill in the historic district that provides a good view of the surrounding area.

Hotel Sierra Madre is a quaint hotel. The English- and French-speaking staff is polite and helpful, and the hotel’s location allows you to easily explore some of the best sights in Quito. The surrounding neighborhood is safe during the day and night.

The hotel’s 21 rooms are good sized and clean. The beds are comfy and the private bathrooms come equipped with a hot water shower, hair dryer, and toiletries. All rooms have hardwood floors, a cable TV, and free Wi-Fi. There are five rooms with balconies—these balconies are wonderful places to relax outside and enjoy good views of the city. Rooms also come with a digital safety deposit box. Remember to store your valuables – including passports, extra money, and jewelry – here when you’re out on the town.

A buffet breakfast is offered to guests each morning—options include eggs, cereal, croissants, fresh fruit, and coffee. This is a great (and convenient) way to start your day. The hotel’s restaurant is cozy, with large windows and a spacious dining area. The menu is varied and includes options like shrimp ceviche and Neapolitan grilled steak. For dessert, try the fig tiramisu or tres leches cake. A number of drinks – including beer, wine, and cocktails – can be ordered from the bar.

This hotel also serves as something of a gallery for Ecuadorian artists—a collection of some 30 paintings can be found throughout the hotel. There is a reading room where you can sit with a book; if you’re done with the book you’re reading you can exchange it at the hotel’s lending library. Other services of Hotel Sierra Madre include luggage storage, laundry service, and massage service.
