La Casona de Antigua

Antigua is a lovely city in Guatemala’s Central Highlands. Once the capital of Guatemala, Antigua is now one of the most pleasant places in the country. The slow pace and cobblestone streets encourage strolls and photos, and there are a number of restaurants, bars, and shops to visit. Three volcanoes dot the valley surrounding Antigua, and there are plenty of opportunities for hiking and mountain biking.

La Casona de Antigua is located on the outside of the city within a residential complex. The setting is quiet, secure, and serene. It takes about 15–20 minutes to walk to the center of downtown; you can also take a tuk tuk taxi for a few dollars.

The hotel extends around a lovely central courtyard filled with plants and a fountain. The eleven rooms have an attractive aesthetic—the décor includes exposed brick walls, soft lighting, and a fireplace. The king- and queen-size beds are comfy and promote a good night’s sleep. All rooms have a cable TV and safety deposit box, as well as a private bathroom with a hot water shower and hair dryer. Rooms open onto a shared patio overlooking the courtyard; plants hang from the roof and spill over the railing. The whole scene is indescribably pleasant.

There is a large common area where guests can read, chat, or use the Wi-Fi. There are also places to hold intimate receptions, weddings and retreats, as well a room that can be used for seminars and meetings.

The hotel’s complimentary breakfast is delicious and varied—guests can order any item from the menu. You can dine outdoors on the top floor or order room service and dine in. The chef can tailor the menu to fit your dietary preferences and requirements.
