Mashpi Lodge

This part of Ecuador is known for its incredible diversity of birds, and around 500 species of bird live here. The grounds feature an 85-foot (25-m) observation tower, where you can climb tot the top and look for parrots, tanagers, and toucans. Mashpi Lodge also maintains a lively hummingbird garden. You’ll also see capuchin monkeys swinging through capuchin monkeys over your head. This rainforest has a profusion of waterfalls — both the Copal and Malimpias Waterfall are within hiking distance from the lodge. There’s a “laboratory” on site that caters to younger travelers. Visit the lodge’s life center to watch birds from a wooden viewing platform and learn about the many species of local butterflies.

You can sign up for soothing spa treatments, including massages that take place on the lodge’s terrace. Consult with staff at the wellness center about tailored skin and beauty treatments. Pamper yourself from the inside out with yoga or meditation in the surrounding landscape — ask for tips about the best spots for relaxation.

Rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows that offer sweeping views and fill the rooms with natural light. You can open the windows to let in the sounds of the jungles. Simple furnishings and a modern design make the space especially calm and inviting. Mashpi Lodge rooms also supplies guests with filtered water and reusable water bottles.
