El volcán San Pedro fue declarado parque nacional en el 2006. El volcán está cubierto de bosques tropicales y se tarda unas 4-5 horas para llegar a la cumbre por un sendero bien mantenido.
Tour colectivo
En la mañana a las 06: 00 A.M tomará el barco desde Panajachel hacia el pueblo de San Pedro la Laguna, donde se le llevará al Centro de Visitantes del Volcán, aquí se da inicio a la caminata. Al comienzo del sendero atravesará las plantaciones de café, campos de maíz y otras operaciones agrícolas que eventualmente hacen paso a los bosques exuberantes. El camino puede ser húmedo y fangoso en algunos lugares, además bastante empinado.
Al llegar al primer mirador podrá descansar y comer su merienda, posteriormente seguiremos el recorrido por los senderos.
