The Santiaguito Volcano is one of Guatemala's most active volcanoes. It belches smoke, ash, and lava on a consistent basis. The volcano grew out of the Santa María Volcano, having been created in 1922 following a major eruption at Santa María. The volcano's massive dome complex continues to grow with each explosion, although most eruptions are minor.
This tour takes travelers to one of the best places to see the Santiaguito Volcano. You will hike to a mirador *and enjoy eruptions from a close but safe distance. The *mirador is about .6 miles (1 km) from Santiaguito, providing you with a perfect view of the volcano. From this viewpoint you can also see the Pacific Slope of Guatemala, the Santa María Volcano, and the Chicabal Volcano.
