We Journeyed Together—Ecuador Bound
It's the first time in a while that our whole family got to experience new things and nature together. We’re blown away by what Ecuador has to offer.
Why is Ecuador our dream destination?
From the city of Quito to the islands in the Galapagos Archipelago, we were amazed by the different landscapes and natural beauty of these Ecuador destinations. We went up to Cotopaxi National Park, which is one of the tallest active volcanoes in the world. The gondola ride up to the volcano was fantastic. Too bad the clouds kept us from seeing the peak, but it was an amazing experience nevertheless.
The Galapagos Islands have so much to offer...
At Santa Fe, sea lions are everywhere, and not afraid of people. This is an excellent place to spend 2 days in. We also enjoyed our stay at Tortuga Bay. The beach is beautiful and you can even see baby sharks in the water and tons of marine iguanas.
We’ll always remember this trip because...
Quito is great. The staff at Barnard Hotel here goes above and beyond to help. They let us check out late and kept the room when my daughter was sick on the last day. We really appreciated their kindness and the people that helped us along the way.
Places you'll stay
Quito
Set an elevation of 9,350 ft (2,850 m), Quito is the highest capital city in the world. The population of this bustling city is a contrasting mix of Ecuadorians sporting sleek business suits and colorful indigenous clothing. These contrasts exemplify the mix of politics, history and culture that define Quito. Founded in the 16th century atop the ruins of an Inca city, Quito is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a premier destination for those visiting Ecuador.
Santa Cruz
The island of Santa Cruz is the visitor hub of the Galápagos. As the second-largest island in the Galápagos, Santa Cruz is characterized by its moist highlands region, the bustling town of Puerto Ayora, and several pristine beaches.
Isabela
As the largest island in the Galápagos, Isabela offers the widest range of terrain and visitor sites in the archipelago. Isabela hosts impressive wildlife, white-sand beaches, and barren lava fields. This island has the largest population of wild tortoises, which can be seen roaming in the highlands near the rims of craters. Isabela is the closest island to the Galápagos volcanic hotspot and is thus the most volcanically active island in the archipelago. It has six shield volcanos dispersed across its 1,790 square mile (4,640 square km) landscape.
Baltra Island
For most visitors, Baltra Island’s scrubby, arid landscape is their first look at the Galápagos. This island has the main airport in the Galápagos, and serves as the departure point for cruise ships.
Moments to look forward to
Cotopaxi National Park
Home to one of the most iconic volcanoes in South America, this park also features a wide-open alpine landscape. At a staggering 19,347 feet (5,897 m), the Cotopaxi Volcano is the focal point of the park.
