Venga a visitar el Biotopo Chocón Machacas durante este recorrido. El biotopo protege una importante población de manatíes, así como una variedad de otros animales.
El Biotopo Chocón Machacas se encuentra en El Golfete, un pequeño lago que colinda con el Río Dulce. El biótopo ayuda a proteger aproximadamente 100 manatíes- grandes mamíferos acuáticos familiares de las morsas. Los manatíes se encuentran amenazadas en la zona y el parque de 72 millas cuadradas (186 kilómetros cuadrados) ayuda a protegerlos de cualquier daño.
Dentro de los bosques y los manglares de inundación de las tierras bajas que rodean las lagunas, viven 130 especies de aves, 31 de mamíferos y 31 especies de reptiles / anfibios. A medida que flotan a lo largo de las lagunas de este biótopo mantenga los ojos bien abiertos para ver las nutrias, halcones pecho naranja y manatíes.
