Experience Highlights
This tour of Lake Atitlán will help you understand the various cultures that are present in the towns that border this lake. Your guides will pick you up at your hotel and during the tour will explain the history, agricultural practices, and religion of the people in this region.
The tour begins in San Marcos La Laguna. Set along the western shores of Lake Atitlán, this town is the new age capital of Guatemala. It's a quiet and peaceful place.
The second stop is in San Juan La Laguna, which is well known for its textiles and painting. You'll watch the preparation of natural dye and see a loom being used. Afterwards you'll get a chance to try out the loom.
Next, the tour heads to San Pedro La Laguna and visits a local market and church. Admire the details in the architecture of this church and then taste coffee that's cultivated just outside town.
The tour ends in Santiago Atitlán, the largest town around Lake Atitlán. You'll learn about the town's history and visit the church and Maximon, a Mayan saint. While here you'll also explore the colorful local market.
Afterwards the tour returns to Panajachel.
The tour is given in Spanish with an extra cost for an English speaking guide.
If it is a one person party, the tour will start at a later time and will only visit three villages: San Pedro La Laguna, Santiago and San Juan La Laguna.
