Amazing Peaks and Majestic Ruins

Amazing Peaks and Majestic Ruins

The service delivered over the 16 days was second to none, every pickup was on time, and all connections made. All hotels selected, for our stay were very good with friendly, helpful staff.

Exploring Peru in depth…

With over two weeks of vacation, we wanted to explore Peru in depth! My partner and I were excited to explore the different terrains and also visit the iconic destination — Machu Picchu. Prior to that, we visited the Sacred Valley. It was a great day out with an extra stop at a wildlife center, a wonderful way to to see several Inca sites and a good precursor to Machu Picchu itself.

Is it worth the hike? Totally!

The 2-day Colca Canyon adventure was a long tour but well worth it. Visiting the highland plateaus of Peru was fantastic. The guides stopped when requested, and included much-needed breaks at cafes. The height of the trip topped 15.7 km (9.8 mi), with stunning views of the volcanoes. Chivay was a really nice little town and worth walking around the market. Our guide took us around explaining the various fruits and vegetables, and the coffee shop on the corner of the square was one of the few places that sold proper Peruvian coffee.

The ocean wildlife amazed us…

The Ballestas Islands was a good excursion to see this archipelago's famous (both in Peru and Ecuador) nesting birds leave the island every morning. We even got to see the Humboldt penguins! During our time at Paracas, we stayed at San Augustin. We had lovely views over the sea and facing the fishing fleet of Paracas. We walked to and from the port easily.

Cusco

Nestling in the dip of the Watanay River Valley, from above the city of Cusco takes the shape of a puma, which some historians theorize was a purposeful design. As the city expands, its borders creep up the sides of the surrounding mountains, but puma statues, fountains, and signs keep the big cat’s status of unofficial city mascot.

Arequipa

The name Arequipa comes from "Ari, Quepay," which means "Yes, you may stay" in the local Quechua language. Not surprisingly, Arequipa is very welcoming and well worth the visit with its amazing architecture, bustling city center, and friendly atmosphere.

Paracas

The word Paracas means "rain of sand," named after the sandstorms found in this coastal part of Peru. Hidden beneath the sand is a rich history that merits The Paracas National Reserve, a marine wildlife and historical destination.

Sacred Valley

The first inhabitants of the Sacred Valley treasured this land not only for its dramatic landscapes and sweeping vistas—the Sacred Valley also offered ample opportunities for agriculture, and had plentiful water just beyond the reaches of the parched desert. Its fertility was the result of a sunny climate and the Río Urubamba coursing through the valley.

Pisco

Situated on the western coast of Peru’s lowlands, Pisco started out as a fishing village. Nowadays, it’s best known for its vineyards, growing the grapes that make up the main ingredient in pisco, Peru’s famous grape brandy. Peruvians have strict rules when it comes to the harvest of grapes and the preparation of the liquor. Pisco is a cherished recipe, and has become increasingly popular all over the world. If you want to sample the national beverage, get it from the source. Pisco is also a perfect base camp for exploring the nearby Paracas National Reserve, and its stunning variety of birds and other animals.
