Do I Need to Take Malaria Pills or Get Vaccinations for my trip to Ecuador?

There are no required vaccinations for travelling to Ecuador. Hepatitis A and yellow fever vaccinations are recommended. If you plan on making an extended trip to a rural part of Ecuador, you may also want to consider vaccinations for typhoid, rabies, and hepatitis B.

If you are planning to visit the Amazon or the surrounding area, there is a risk of contracting malaria, although a malarial vaccination is not required. You can take malarial pills, or rely on insect repellent and mosquito netting.
