I would warn them about the deceptive practices of Casa Azul though about the stocking and charges of the alcohol in the fridge. No warning at check in. No signage on fridge. Not locked. No tally sheet. No warning or heads up by Anywhere. I have never had to pay for alcohol before. ($92. U.S.) There was a store a few doors away. My only complaint about this hotel. I would stay there again. I just wouldn't be tricked twice.

WHERE ARE THE BEST RAINFORESTS?
Guatemala's ancient Mayan-Toltec name means "land of the trees." Petén has Guatemala’s best examples of rainforests, most notably around Tikal , El Mirador , Uaxactún , and Yaxhá . The hillsides around Lake Petén Itzá also have some nice rainforests, particularly outside the town of San Andrés.
WHAT TO DO?
Experience the rainforest and make a new four-legged friend on a horseback riding tour. Use your own two legs to hike across hanging bridges in a rainforest canopy, or go zip-lining in the Ixpanpajul Nature Park . There are many rare bird species in Guatemala, and the rainforest is one of the best places to go on a bird watching tour .

Conquer a volcano on a scenic hike — the peak of Chicabal Volcano has a lake in its crater, and you can see Lake Atitlán from the summit of the San Pedro Volcano . For a more relaxed adventure, try a birdwatching or a horseback riding tour. Go swimming at the unusual and remote Siete Altares — this series of green pools appears in a natural limestone bridge.
LAKES OF GUATEMALA
Take a kayaking tour on the placid waters of Lake Atitlán — you’ll be surrounded by looming volcanoes and Maya villages. Visit San Marcos La Laguna for swimming and kayaking in a New Age atmosphere. Lake Petén Itzá has several Maya ruins near its shore, including Tayazal. Visit the Bocas del Polochic Wildlife Preserve on the western end of Lake Izabal to see Guatemalan wetlands.
WHERE TO STAY
There are a few remote jungle lodges in Guatemala where you can stay within the heart of the forest. This provides guests with intimate access to the sights and sounds of the forest. In other destinations , you can stay at a hotel located only a short drive from the entrance to the rainforest. These hotels are typically more comfortable than rural ecolodges.
