Lakeside Villages and Relaxation
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this lakeside getaway by Lake Atitlan. We stayed in amazing places and will be using Anywhere again as we explore more of Central America!
Lakeside serenity…
This was the quintessential lakeside relaxation getaway my wife and I had been looking forward to. We spent eight glorious days lounging by the scenic views of Lake Atitlan and exploring different villages around the area. We first stayed at Laguna Lodge in Santa Cruz La Laguna, a secluded lodge that is only accessible by boat! The interior was beautiful, and we could tell it was inspired by all the natural beauty around it, using volcanic stones and local wood as the main material. We also enjoyed doing the excursion through Atitlan Natural Reserve. The wildlife here seemed at peace with the locals and the tourists.
The history and sights of Antigua…
For the last two days of our trip, we stayed at Antigua to experience a more busy city life. Casa Santo Domingo is AMAZING — we loved seeing the ancient monastery ruins that are integrated into the property. The museums are interesting and a great way to learn about the history of the city.
The reason we’ll be back again!
This vacation was thoroughly relaxing and we loved it. Claudia did an amazing job arranging all the transportation and recommending these lodgings. We would love to explore more of Central America, and would definitely use Anywhere again for it!
Places you'll stay
Santa Cruz La Laguna
The mellow town of Santa Cruz La Laguna is set along the shores of Lake Atitlán to the west of Panajachel. Accessible only by boat, Santa Cruz is both beautiful and supremely relaxed.
Antigua
The charming city of La Antigua is situated in a lush highland valley and surrounded by the cones of three volcanoes. As its name implies (Antigua means old in Spanish), this is a historic city. It was the former capital of Guatemala until an earthquake destroyed it in 1773. Following this disaster, the capital was moved to its current site at Guatemala City, but the ruins (and some of the people) of Antigua stayed put. These days, Antigua is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the country’s foremost tourist destinations.
Lake Atitlan, Panajachel
Panajachel is Lake Atitlán’s most popular traveler town. Set along the northern shores of the lake, the setting is here is gorgeous—think blue water, forested mountains, and volcanoes. The town’s culture mixes North American, European and Central American influences.
