The Venado Caverns, a 2,700 meter stretch of limestone caves replete with stalactite and stalagmite formations, are ideal for a day-trip from nearby Arenal. The caverns, believed to be between 15 and 20 million years old, were formed by underground streams which still run through the caves.
During the guided tour of the caverns, you may see bats, monochrome frogs, fish and marine fossils, many of which are endemic to the area.
What to Bring
Closed toe shoes or river sandals. A change of clothes and towel (you will get wet). NO FLIP FLOPS. Waterproof camera (optional).
Transportation to and from your Arenal area hotel, safety equipment (helmet with its ow light and rubber boots), hiking gear.
Many of our tours and activities offer transportation pick up & drop off options from several locations and destinations. Options vary by tour, see “BOOKING REQUEST” for full details.
So this was my husband and my absolutely most favorite experience and we didn't expect it to be. I just booked it to do something different BUT it was wonderful. The guide was great and being able to move through the wet cave like we did was amazing and we learned a lot about geology and the area as well as the critters that lived in or visited the caves. . We also had the opportunity to connect with the other people on the tour. It was also great to come out of the caves and have CLEAN rooms with showers to change into and our driver was ready with towels and then fruit once we changed. That kind of thing doesn't happen in the states.
For me this was a highlight of our trip. Amazing place, nice guide, beautiful property... a must do
This was awesome. Elvis our guide did a great job taking care of us and I would describe this as a highlight.
