The nearby Rincon de la Vieja National Park, named after the 1,895m volcano within, has established trails that wind their way to the summit crater. This volcano, which commonly spews steam, is the largest of five that comprise the Cordillera de Guanacaste. Within this park lies the headwaters of innumerable rivers and ravines where crystalline waters plunge some 200 ft into blue lagoons.

Additionally, several river rafting outfits lead day-long trips in the class II and III rapids on the nearby Colorado River.
