VillasAlturas Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit organization that rescues and rehabilitates local wildlife. This animal sanctuary has lodging for overnight guests — 7 villas with incredible views of the Escalera Mountains.

During your stay at the Villas Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary, you can attend educational talks as well as observe the animals. Which animals are at the lodge changes regularly, but you can expect to see monkeys and colorful exotic birds. There are some convenient day trips from the hotel — some of the closest attractions include the Dominical Beach. From here you can travel north to the Nauyaca Waterfalls, which are popular destinations for hiking and horseback riding. South of the reserve you can visit the Marino Ballena National Park, which is a famous nesting ground for sea turtles. From the resort, you can quickly get to some of the local beaches, which are quiet and pristine.

Each of the villas has its own balcony. From the deck, you can see the “whale’s tail” shape of the Marino Ballena coastline. All of the villas have layouts that include living rooms and full kitchens, including everything you need to make tea and coffee.

You can access the Internet from the living room. The living room has a sofa bed, and the kitchen is fully equipped and included a microwave. All of the air-conditioned villas have daily housekeeping.

On the grounds of the restaurant, you’ll find a pool on the terrace that looks out over the ocean. You can arrange for massages and attend yoga classes at the lodge. The dining room and bar are next to the pool. Dine on Costa Rican classics and order fruity Costa Rican cocktails.
