El Toucanet Lodge

Set amidst the cloud forest near Santa Maria de Dota in the south central region of Costa Rica, El Toucanet Lodge provides a comfortable, rustic setting with panoramic views and direct access to an optimal bird watching habitat.

El Toucanet’s location lends itself to being a restful hiatus for travelers driving from San Jose to the southern beaches and national parks of Costa Rica. El Toucanet is easily accessible, just one and a half hours south of San Jose. Guests enjoy the natural wood constructed lodge with modern accommodations and their own private terrace.

The biodiversity in the surrounding landscape draws comparisons to the cloud forests of Monteverde. In nearby mountains reaching heights of over 3000 meters, over 200 bird species have been documented as a part of the diverse ecosystem of plants and animals. The lodge offers tours such as the Quetzal Quest tour with a chance to spot some of Costa Rica’s most beautiful birds, packages for birdwatchers, an authentic coffee tour, and horseback rides through the forest.

El Toucanet’s on site restaurant serves Costa Rican and international food. The fireplace adds to the cozy atmosphere where you can enjoy some wine, baked fresh trout, or homemade whole wheat breads.
