Suspension Bridges, Sloth Sanctuary and Butterfly Garden

Treetop Suspension Bridges The Tree Top walkway is the ideal cloud forest experience for those who wish to explore by themself the beauty of the forest at their own pace and appreciate the incredible array of vegetation and exotic bird life that the region has to offer.

The walkway consists of 8 suspension bridges connected by trails covering 1.9 miles (3km). The bridges vary from 150ft (50m) to 500ft (170m) in length and are suspended at heights ranging from 36ft (12m) to 180ft (60m). At almost 5ft (1.5m) wide, the bridge system is the widest and sturdiest in Costa Rica.

The hanging bridges can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages and physical conditions. Tours last up to 1.5 hours. Again, it is recommended that visitors bring long pants, suitable shoes and waterproof jackets.

Butterfly Garden
Selvatura's stunning butterfly garden is one of the largest on the continent. At 300ft long and 90ft wide, with a huge 50ft dome ceiling, the giant garden is host to 50 species of butterflies. Accurate and sensitive temperature controlling enables the survival of species from a range of altitudes and climate conditions throughout Costa Rica. Take a guided tour through this fascinating live exhibit and learn about the life cycle, special behaviors and evolution of these unique creatures.

This is a rare treat for photography lovers! The garden also features a native plant display, relaxing Waterfalls and an ideally situated picnic area.

Sloth Sanctuary During this tour you are going to see one of Costa Rica´s most iconic animals in a carefully designed exhibit that replicates their natural habitat and that is home to 20 sleepy, slow-moving, tree-dwelling individuals. This is the sanctuary where time takes on a new meaning and invites quiet contemplation of these extraordinary mammals.

Enjoy a guided tour of the exhibit to learn about this emblematic species, its habits, and why it doesn´t go anywhere very quickly. Observe these sloths from a stressless distance as they roam among the trees and foliage of the exhibition with freedom and in safety.

These beautiful mammals arrived at our sanctuary having been rescued from the effects of poaching, habitat destruction, illness, and accidents among other reasons that now prevent them from being reintroduced to their natural habitat. For this reason, the Selvatura Sloth Sanctuary is very dear to our hearts and part of our ongoing mission to protect and preserve this recently-named national symbol.
