This tour will make sure you're fueled for the full-day adventure ahead of you. Spend eight hours in Costa Rica's exquisite central valley of Alajuela, where you'll discover how the perfect cup of Costa Rican coffee is produced at the Doka Coffee Estate, and explore a volcanic region at Poás Volcano National Park.

This tour immediately gets you off to a good start when you arrive at the Doka Coffee Estate for a lovely breakfast. The delicious food you'll be enjoying is only further enhanced by your beautiful surroundings. Once you've had your fill, it's time to discover how Costa Rica produces such a fine cup of coffee.

Not only does the Doka Coffee Estate produce award-winning coffee, it is a third generation family business. Watch the estate's coffee go from berry to brew as you learn about cultivating, harvesting, roasting, and finally, sampling. You may even get to pitch in during the early portion of the production tour.

Ready to work off breakfast and your caffeine fix? Then it's time to head to your next destination — Poás Volcano National Park. Put your sweater on, because the rise in elevation is about to create a weather change that might leave you a little chilly. At 2,708 meters (8,885 ft), Poás Volcano is a stratovolcano with sulphur fumaroles, and a crater that's 320 meters (1,050 feet) deep.

As you climb toward the crater viewing point you'll be able to appreciate the beauty of Costa Rica, which includes plants, flowers, scurrying wildlife, and picturesque farmlands. Enjoy the crater viewpoint and the scenic hiking trails where you will learn about the surrounding ecosystems. The time you'll spend at Poás Volcano National Park is broken down accordingly:

  • 10 minutes walking to the main crater viewpoint.
  • 20 minutes exploring the crater viewpoint with sulphur fumaroles, the hiking trails, and learning about the areas ecosystems.
  • A 10 minute walk to exit the park.

Make the most of your holiday in Alajuela, Costa Rica — spend a whole day outdoors as you learn about agriculture and have an adventure at a beautiful volcanic park.

*Note: The Poás Volcano portion of this tour occurs at a high altitude and is not recommended for pregnant women, children, or individuals who have high blood pressure, a heart condition, or recently had surgery.
