Lago Arenal
Lago Arenal, se encuentra adyacente al Arenal Volcano , en las tierras bajas del norte de Costa Rica , es el lago más espectacular del país. Con el magnífico volcán Arenal hacia el este y rodeado por rocosas laderas y densas montañas, el paisaje no podría ser mejor. Cabe mencionar también la serie de actividades que se practican en el lago tales como windsurf (tabla de vela) de clase mundial, pesca, kayak, observación de aves y más, haciéndolo así un destino espectacular.

Aproximadamente hace 2 o 3 millones de años atrás, movimientos tectónicos en la Tierra crearon una pequeña depresión en el valle del Arenal, que después se llenó de agua, resultando en una pequeña laguna, que actuó como el área inicial para el lago. Este era el estado del Lago Arenal hasta 1973, cuando el Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad amplió el lago y construyó un dique en su extremo oriental. Hoy en día, es el lago más grande de Costa Rica - un área total de 33 millas cuadradas (85,5 kilómetros cuadrados) - y tiene un proyecto hidroeléctrico que produce el 70% de la energía del país. La profundidad del agua varía de 100-200 metros. El pequeño pueblo de Nuevo Arenal , en la frontera de una sección del lago, también se creó en 1973, cuando el sitio inicial de la ciudad se inundó con la expansión del lago.
Durante todo el año actividades en el Lago Arenal son la pesca, excursiones en barco y tablas de vela. El windsurf es especialmente bueno en el lago, ya que este tiene aguas cálidas y vientos fuertes - dos de los ingredientes indispensables para windsurfing de primera clase. La pesca es excelente también, Rainbow Bass, miembro de la familia de los cíclidos, forma parte de las especies más encontradas en las aguas del lago. Su carne blanca y sabrosa hacen de ellos un desafío - y una delicia – para pescar.
La zona que rodea el lago conserva una variada actividad también. Hay espectaculares caminatas y ciclismo de montaña, paseos a caballo y observación de aves. Las aves que pueden ser vistas en la zona son los colibríes y pájaros carpinteros, martín pescador, tucanes, aricari y mucho más.
Lago Arenal se encuentra a 10 millas (17 km) de La Fortuna, 66 millas (106 km) de Monteverde , y 87 millas (140 km) de Liberia. Los que se dirigen desde Arenal/La Fortuna a Monteverde pueden tomar botes por el lago, una alternativa más rápida para circunvalar el lago en tierra.

This trip was perfect for our family of 4! It was full of adventure for EVERYONE! Usually our vacations consists of entertainment for the kids but on this vacation we all got to enjoy so much. We have a 5 and 9 year old and we did zip lining, safari boat tour, coffee/chocolate tour, hot springs, waterfall hike, manual Antonio national park and so much more!! We were here for 11 days (2 of them travel days) and it was just enough time! I can’t wait to come back!

The trip to Costa Rica was very memorable. My family and I enjoyed a lot. We did many things like rappelling, rafting for the first time. We saw lovely birds and animals. Anywhere team consisting of Leo Navarro did a great job of organizing and making the logistics part of travel as comfortable as possible. We did not have to worry about anything. Everything was taken care of. Costa Rica is beautiful place with great culture and very tourist friendly. Loved the place !
