Classic Family Adventure Vacation
Costa Rica is an amazingly sustainable country, and we really liked how much the nation cares about its carbon footprint and saving its forests. It is beautiful and knows how to cater to travelers well without ruining the environment. It's a wonderful place that we would definitely want to visit again.
A great beginning to this family vacation…
My wife and I decided to take our kids on a family adventure to Costa Rica. We had an experience starting from when we landed at the airport. Our driver Richard took us from the airport to Arenal and was an absolutely fantastic driver — the best that we had on our whole trip. He showed us the coffee bean plant, gave us a brief history of Costa Rica on our drive, told us cool facts about the country, and kept us entertained for the long ride.
Why we love Arenal…
Hotel Los Lagos at Arenal was a great resort with wonderful pools and spas. We also really liked the environment and the animal places (crocodile, butterflies, etc.) within the hotel. Tamara was a fantastic tour guide for the rafting tour on Balsa River — it was one of our favorites on the whole trip. It was great to have a tour with a break for fruit as well as the option to jump in the river to swim for a bit, and overall, we all had so much fun despite never having done it before and being a bit scared.
An experience you can’t get anywhere else…
The people in Monteverde were friendly and pointed out things for us, like monkeys and also suggesting the fruit market (la feria), which was a great place for us because we love fruit and loved interacting with locals to find out more about their local fruit. Hotel Cala lodge made quite an impression on us. We loved the atmosphere of the hotel being completely enclosed in a forest. It was beautiful.
