Casa Vista Azul is an impeccably furnished tree house. Set above the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean and the tall forests of Manuel Antonio, this home is set deeply into the lush forest canopy. With five levels and 6,000 square feet (557 sq m), it can sleep 18 people, so it's perfect for large groups or families.

Casa Vista Azul rises from the tropical plants and trees that surround its base, extending upwards and offering increasingly better views the higher up one goes. The entire home encompasses five stories and has the convenience of an elevator.

The view from the top is spectacular; the Manuel Antonio National Park stretches across the southern horizon, thinning into a peninsula and eventually merging with a shimmering blue ocean. A fabulous place to take all this in is from the open air, cliff side living room. This room — set some 40 feet (12 m) above the jungle floor — is open on three sides to the rainforest.

It’s not uncommon to have hummingbirds fly inside to drink from a flower arrangement or watch monkeys leap from the trees at eye level. A large, arching ceiling protects from afternoon rains while still allowing in an ever-present ocean breeze. A comfortable, L-shaped couch offers up a great place to relax, while a nearby dining table can seat up to sixteen people. In terms of cooking, guests will enjoy using the fully stocked kitchen or having the onsite chef whip up a number of tasty recipes.

The house is truly handmade. Every feature was created by local craftsmen and constructed from indigenous materials. All of the 7 bedrooms are air conditioned and have a private hot water bathroom. The master suite is 500 square feet (46.5 sq m) and includes a stone bath with a Jacuzzi, a king size bed, and a large wrap-around balcony. The next level down has two jungle and pool view bedrooms, one with a king size bed. On the pool level is another room with a king size bed and a bathroom that features a sunken tub. This room overlooks the gardens and swimming pool.

The pool itself is gorgeous. It features a 20-ft waterfall and a rock stair entry. Its design – which includes both a lap lane and separate swim area – allows for simultaneous exercise and play. The pool house overlooks the pool and waterfall. Enclosed by screens, it allows in a constant supply of cool ocean breezes. It has three sofas that can be converted into either three twin beds or one king size and one twin bed. Downstairs are two additional bedrooms and bathrooms, each with its own open air shower. One bedroom has a king size bed and the other has three twin beds. A kitchenette, large refrigerator and outdoor barbecue allow guests staying in the pool house to store and cook their own food.
