Terra Viva is a 300 acre property privately owned by a Costa Rican family that is a combination of hotel and an authentic farm stay.
The goal of Terra viva is to protect all of the 150 acer Cloud Forest that exists on the property as well as educate students and the public by being a cutting-edge dairy operation with innovative, healthy and environmentally friendly practices.
Terra viva is on the quiet side of Monteverde, neighbors to the Santa Elena Reserve and just 3Km from town. 60% is primary forest, 30% is pastures for the dairy farm and horses, and the remainder has been recently devoted to forest regeneration. The lodge is a wooden building nicely surrounded by forest and gardens. It has six bedrooms. Each can accommodate 4 people, with private bathroom, hot water and electricity. There also is a two additional buildings with 2 rooms each. Downstairs of the main building is the dinning room and kitchen where our guests can enjoy Costa Rican traditional cuisine made at the farm. The three daily meals are served family style. Breakfast is $4 per person, Lunch and dinner is $5 per person.
What makes Terra Viva unique
Private Wildlife Reserve, hiking trails, horseback riding trail, cheese making and other dairy-related activities, organic gardening-related activities. Terra Viva is one of the 180 dairy farms that provide milk to the Monteverde Cheese Factory. At Terra Viva 35 cows are milked twice a day and obtain an average of 400 Kg. per day. The Terra Viva farm is the first farms in the area moving towards an organic production.
