Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and Sky Walk

Take a 2 to 2.5-hour hike to experience the true biodiversity of Monteverde. This is an easy stroll through the treetops that’s perfect for families and nature lovers who want an easy way to explore Monteverde’s Cloud Forest Reserve and hanging bridges.

The Monteverde preserve was created to preserve a wealth of orchids, bromeliads, and other plants and wildlife that thrive in humid environments. Your hike covers 1.5 miles (2.5 km), through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve. As you walk down the forest trails, you'll see enormous trees and orchids that thrive in the midst of forest floor decomposition.

This tour includes a knowledgeable guide who is ready to answer any questions from your group. Your guide will be able to point out some of the monkeys, birds, and reptiles that call this forest home — but are difficult to spot amidst the profusions of plant life.

After exploring the forest floor, your guide will take to you to some of the forest's high-up suspension bridges. These brdges are at different heights, and each offers a different, tremendous view of the forest. This vantage point gives visitors an idea of how truly dense the foliage is. This is also an ideal perch for spotting birds and other wildlife — 90 percent of the cloud forest's animals live in the forest canopy.

Once you've gotten your fill of your lofty view, your tour continues to the Rancho de Lelo, where you get to chow down on a lunchtime feast. You'll learn about traditional Costa Rican dishes at a farm that grows most of the ingredients used to prepare your meal. Farm animals and beautiful views make this an idyllic spot to conclude your sightseeting tour.
