Hacienda Arío Horseback Tour

Saddle up! You and your trusty steed are about to explore the rugged terrain of Hacienda Arío — a family-owned ranch that is preserving the Guanacaste Province’s authentic ‘sabanero’ or ‘cowboy’ culture. The best part about this tour is that you can choose your preferred experience: group, private, or solo tour.

Along Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, there is a very special ranch within the hamlet of Playa Manzanillo waiting to introduce you to an old-fashioned way of life. Hacienda Arío spreads across a gracious 1,924 ha (4,754 ac), giving you and your equine companion plenty of room to roam. Forget what you think you know about ranching, because it’s not just prairies you’ll be galloping through — Hacienda Arío will take you across all that the Guanacaste Province has to offer, including deserted beaches, luscious forests, scenic hillsides, and more. It’s 2.5 hours of pure adventure on a beautiful form of vintage transportation.

Coming along for the ride will be an authentic sabanero and a bilingual naturalist guide. Take in the beauty of nature and learn about it in relation to the region and ranching life. Even first time riders can enjoy this experience, because Hacienda Arío not only has a special breeding program, the ranch goes two steps further by selecting tour horses with the best temperament, and then pairing them with riders based upon skill level.

To get the most out of your time at the ranch, choose from three tour types:

  • Group Tour: Takes a ‘the more the merrier’ approach. 8-10 guests (maximum) will form a riding group — share this exciting adventure with strangers and leave with friends!

  • Private Tour: Allows you to choose your own group (minimum of 2 guests), and receive more one-on-one time with your guides. This a great option if you’re travelling with family and friends.

  • Solo Tour: A top choice if you’re an experienced rider who doesn’t want to worry about moving at the pace of a group, and you’d like to engage with your guides as much as possible.

Whichever experience you choose, you’re sure to have a great time exploring the ecosystems of Guanacaste, and getting back to a simpler way of life. Be sure to keep your eyes open for wildlife, because there’s a good chance you’ll see birds, monkeys, reptiles, and many other animals sharing the ranch’s land with the cattle.
