A Mother/Daughter Nature Expedition
In Costa Rica, everyone was friendly and welcoming. I seriously did not meet one unfriendly person. Drake Bay is so amazing, we would have extended our stay at the Wilderness Resort if they had rooms available!
From Alajuela to Drake Bay…
My daughter and I planned this long-awaited Costa Rica trip through Anywhere. We flew into Alajuela and planned to spend most of our vacation at Drake Bay. We’ve heard great things about the Osa Peninsula, so we couldn’t wait to explore the beaches and rainforests. Drake Bay wilderness resort was a great hub to do a lot of local tours and excursions! The staff was amazing and the meals were great! We would have extended our stay if they had rooms available!
A great way to travel…
As recommended by Tracy, we took the local planes from Alajuela to Drake Bay, and back. Although the plane was small, we had a very professional captain who communicated with passengers. The ride was smooth and a good experience. We also got stunning views out the window of the beautiful landscape.
Places you'll stay
Alajuela & SJO Airport
Alajuela, nicknamed City of the Mangoes, is one of the most important cities in Costa Rica. It is the capital city of the providence bearing its name and is located just 11 miles northwest (17 km) of San Jose. Just outside of town is where you'll find the Juan Santamaria International Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaria), Costa Rica's principal airport.
Drake Bay
Resting on the northern side of the Osa Peninsula, Drake Bay (Bahía Drake) is an adventure-seeker's paradise. It is named after Sir Francis Drake, who is believed to have ventured here in the late 16th century. Travelers here take on some of his adventurous spirit on treks through the primary rainforest.
San Jose
"Chepe," as the city is referred to by locals, is the capital city of Costa Rica and a hub for modern Costa Rican culture. It's also where most visitors depart for tours of central Costa Rica's volcanoes and coffee plantations. Before you leave, take a fun-filled tour of the city's monuments and parks, and maybe sample the burgeoning craft beer scene.
Moments to look forward to
Poas Volcano National Park
Poás Volcano overlooks 14,000 acres (5,666 ha) of various habitats that make up Poas Volcano National Park (Parque Nacional Volcán Poás). Poás Volcano National Park is one of Costa Rica's most active volcanos, making it an awesome place to visit. At a height of 8,885 ft (2,708 m), Poás remains one of Costa Rica's largest and most active volcanoes. This fact alone is enough to attract thousands of visitors per year
