Our first international trip—a success!
This was my first time traveling solo with two boys on our first international vacation. They are 12 and 14, and we’re a fairly active family. I wanted everything planned perfectly! Our itinerary started at Arenal for some rainforest adventures, and ended up at the coasts of Guanacaste for some sun! Our favorite excursion was the La Fortuna Waterfall and hanging bridge tour. My boys LOVED the hanging bridge, especially since the guide was able to point out many cool animals on the way there. Zip lining at the Sky Tram Tour was unnerving, but a new experience for us all.
Getting some sun at Playa Hermosa…
We stayed at Playa Hermosa during our time in Guanacaste. We went on a scuba diving trip far out into the ocean. However, the scuba divers that were our guides were all professional, so we felt safe the whole time. The beach was beautiful and we enjoyed spending time at the beach house in the hotel.

Playa Ocotal is a wonderfully peaceful place to enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing in the sun. Scenic hills and cliffs hem in the beach, and the Catalina Islands sit just offshore. The quaint village of Playa Ocotal is located a few minutes south of the popular beach town of Playas del Coco, where visitors can find numerous restaurants and nightlife options.

Located just 6 km outside the town of La Fortuna, this stunning waterfall provides visitors with a wonderful place to swim and relax. Situated at the base of the dormant Chato volcano amidst a thriving rain forest, the location for this waterfall couldn't get any better.
