We wanted to see wildlife…
My husband and I almost had to call the trip off because of special circumstances, but I’m so glad we were able to continue planning this trip. We came from Florida, so we weren't really looking for beachy destinations, and instead, preferred to stay in one or two places and explore what Costa Rica has to offer. We really wanted a nature-focused trip, specifically to see wildlife in their natural habitat. Doing the tour through Monteverde Cloud Reserve National Park really satisfied all our needs. The guides were professional and made sure we saw everything we were looking forward to seeing.
Secluded and lovely eco-villas…
We wanted to stay at really cool and unique hotels that were tucked away in the environment, preferably not chains but locally-owned businesses. We thought that ecolodges or villas up in the trees would be amazing! Anywhere delivered with the Hotel Cala Lodge in Monteverde and Lomas Del Volcan in Arenal. Both were secluded and really put us close to the natural wildlife in the area.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve (Reserva Biologica del Bosque Nuboso de Monteverde) is where some of the best-kept cloud forest in all of Costa Rica can be found. It is a cloud forest, not a rain forest, due to its elevation of 4,724 ft (1,440 m) above sea level. Some of the best bird-watching can be done inside and outside the reserve.
Children's Eternal Rain Forest
An indispensable option for hiking and viewing this area's amazing biodiversity is the Children's Eternal Rain Forest (Bosque Eterno de los Ninos), also known as CERF. This gigantic reserve gets its name from the unprecedented support from children all over the world.
Arenal Volcano National Park
