Arenal Volcano last erupted in 2010. There was also a massive eruption in 1968 that destroyed a nearby town. You’ll learn about this explosion as well as a few other interesting points in the volcano’s history during your walk.
Volcanic activity has shaped this landscape for eons, and the hiking path crosses over some ancient lava flows, which are called "coladas" in Spanish. Your guide will show you to spots where you’ll have an excellent view of Arenal Lake. As you stroll through the forest, try to move quietly for a better chance of spotting toucans, monkeys, iguanas, and snakes.
After your hike, you’ll head to the Paradise Hot Springs to take a dip in the thermally heated pools and eat a Costa Rican buffet dinner. The buffet has an excellent variety of savory dishes with lots of fresh options. Paradise Hot Springs pools are in the midst of beautifully landscaped grounds that look especially magical when lit up in the evening. Let the strong cascades give you a hydro-massage as you unwind from your hike.
