Cocoa beans were an essential crop for the Aztec and the Maya people. You’ll learn about ancient techniques for growing and harvesting cacao, and your guide will give you more interesting information about how chocolate-making changed throughout the colonial and postcolonial eras.
At certain points during the demonstration, you’ll get to sample some of the final product. This tour does not take place on a commercial farm, and the methods for harvesting, fermenting, and drying the cocoa beans are authentically traditional.
