We wanted to take the kids to Costa Rica to appreciate the ecotourism. Exposure to nature was one thing, but seeing how the whole society embraces nature for conservation was truly impressive.
Tailored to our whole family…
We wanted to take the kids to Costa Rica to appreciate the country's ecotourism. Along with recommending adventures, Lester (from Team Anywhere) suggested the type of lodging best suited for travel with our young family. While we are an active family, we wanted to consider activities that the whole family could do together, that included our young kids (ages 8 & 12) and our 76-year-old grandfather. The vacation was the perfect combination of nature, relaxation, and some adventure.
We were blown away by the beauty of Monteverde…
The Monteverde region blew us away with the Twilight Walk, Children's Eternal Rainforest, and the cabins and greenhouse at Los Pinos. The cabins have beautiful natural light and are a beautiful place. The butterfly garden tour in Monteverde was my father's favorite of the many tours that we took. My children appreciated the coffee tour in Arenal for the hot chocolate that we made, and for Gustavo's enthusiasm and interaction with the kids.
A real taste of Costa Rica…
Our stay at Arenal Green Villas was our first *real* taste of Costa Rica, and the feeling that we weren't just in *any* tropical paradise – we were *really* and *truly* in Costa Rica. The Lopez family were exceptionally welcoming. We had a villa which was one simple bedroom with 4 beds and a shower bathroom. For three days we prepared all of our meals outside and enjoyed them under the roof while it rained and rained, and the kids read in the hammocks. We generally felt rested despite our hikes up the volcano and into town. Every day started with a full breakfast and then we were off to explore. The Lopez family made us feel like we were extended family and not guests.

Playa Hermosa Guanacaste
Hermosa, which means "beautiful" in Spanish, is an aptly named gray-sand beach that perches between two mountains. In fact there are two Playas Hermosa, the other being in the Central Pacific Coast near Jaco while Guanacaste's Playa Hermosa is situated between Playa del Coco and Playa Panama, Hermosa is seldom as crowded as its neighbors. It is a fabulous getaway for those seeking quality relaxation.

Arenal Volcano National Park
