When researching things to do in this beautiful country, we decided we wanted to spend a few days in the Arenal Volcano region, the Nicoya Peninsula, and the Osa Peninsula (preferably the Drake Bay Area). We were hoping to enjoy exploring the rainforests, doing some hiking, kayaking/surfing/paddleboarding, and exploring local culture and cuisine. I want to applaud Anywhere on delivering it *all*.
We’ll always remember this trip because...
Our trip took us from Tamarindo through Arenal, and to the beach town of Drake Bay. Our accommodations in Tamarindo were fantastic. Tamarindo Diria has a great view of the ocean and the staff were all nice and friendly. We were very close to the beach and my boys were able to try their hands at surfing for the first time. Another highlight was a wildlife-filled adventure through Corcovado National Park. We saw countless monkeys and so many different types of birds, thanks to the guide who pointed each animal out to us.

Thanks to Anywhere, my wife and two children thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic trip to Costa Rica. Drake Bay
Resting on the northern side of the Osa Peninsula, Drake Bay (Bahía Drake) is an adventure-seeker's paradise. It is named after Sir Francis Drake, who is believed to have ventured here in the late 16th century. Travelers here take on some of his adventurous spirit on treks through the primary rainforest.
Alajuela & SJO Airport
Alajuela, nicknamed City of the Mangoes, is one of the most important cities in Costa Rica. It is the capital city of the providence bearing its name and is located just 11 miles northwest (17 km) of San Jose. Just outside of town is where you'll find the Juan Santamaria International Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaria), Costa Rica's principal airport.

Arenal Volcano National Park
The Arenal Volcano National Park packs all of Costa Rica's allure into one place: incredible hiking, magnificent views, abounding wildlife and the country's most active volcano. Hiking and horseback riding tours allow you to get up close and personal with this incredible area, which encompasses close to 30,000 acres (12,000 ha) and extends into eight different life zones. Overlooking everything is the imposing Arenal Volcano which sits right inside this wonderful park.
Sirena Biological Station
Along the southwestern coast of the Osa Peninsula, inside of Corcovado National Park, is where you'll find the Sirena Biological Station (Estacion Biologica Sirena). Unquestionably one of the most rugged and extreme areas in the country, Sirena provides the ideal location to witness amazing biodiversity. All it takes is a phone call to the park headquarters in Puerto Jimenez to reserve your spot in this amazing wilderness.
Corcovado National Park
The crown jewel of Costa Rica's national park system, Corcovado National Park (Parque Nacional Corcovado), is comprised of an enormous 103,290 acres (41,800 ha) of tropical rainforest. The largest of Costa Rica's parks, it encompasses about a third of the Osa Peninsula and embraces an unbelievable amount of its biodiversity.
Isla del Caño Biological Reserve
Isla del Caño – situated 20 km offshore from Drake Bay on the Osa Peninsula – is an important island for Costa Rica, both archeologically and environmentally. The waters surrounding this biological reserve are swarming with marine creatures, while the island itself protects several artifacts that date back to pre-Columbian times.
