Rainforest Canopies to Beaches
From rainforest excursions to actually seeing sloths in the wild, this had been the most exciting trip we’ve been on. We were looking for adventure, and we got it!
A friends’ trip to Costa Rica…
Anywhere.com is the easiest team to work with! They were personable, accommodating, and very knowledgeable about Costa Rica, and worked hard to give us the best recommendations. My friends and I were looking for adventure and a chance to relax by the beach...good food was a must! The trip they suggested took us from Arenal to the lazy beaches of Puerto Viejo de Limon. It was a fantastic experience for all of us!
We’ll always remember this trip because...
Arenal is beautiful. We went on several hikes and did a lot of excursions in the area. Our guides were all very knowledgeable about the volcano, the plants, and the animals. We even saw two sloths in the wild during our hike. The sky tram and trek tours were absolutely amazing. From start to finish, it was perfect. The team in place made you feel welcome, very safe, and were focused on you having a great time. The views were spectacular. The zip line was actually 7 different runs — three over a 600 foot (183 m) gorge. Not to be missed while in the area. The waterfall was spectacular. The hike up and down was very long and steep. One person in our party didn’t want to make the hike — no problem. There was a butterfly garden and an orchid garden to enjoy while we were on our hike.
Laid-back vibes on the beach…
Puerto Viejo is the perfect destination if you’re looking for low-key beach time and experience the local Tico towns. We took a snorkeling and hiking tour in the area. Edgar was a great guide — easygoing and informative. The tour lasted well beyond what was on the itinerary, but that was okay with us! Edgar found sloths and monkeys in the trees, so we were lucky. Anywhere was great in assuring us of our plans throughout the trip. Everyone was so helpful and the responses timely!
Places you'll stay
Arenal Volcano and La Fortuna
The charming and welcoming town of La Fortuna is a perfect getaway for families, couples, and friends. The only requisite is that you love outdoor adventure! So if you can’t wait to spend your vacation in the fresh air, biking, kayaking, hiking, and more, then discover why the Arenal region is just what you need. Best of all, you can enjoy luxe accommodations that boast volcanic views, and pamper yourself with a luxurious soak in a hot spring. Nature is waiting for you, and she’s easy to find when you book your Arenal adventure with Anywhere.
Puerto Viejo de Limon
Known for its laidback attitude and famous for it's surfing, Puerto Viejo de Limon beckons visitors to come experience Costa Rica’s eccentric side. The village’s cultural influences are interesting to be sure: a mix of Afro-Caribbean, Bribri Indian, tico and hippyesque counterculture, this small port town is an anthropological study in itself. A mere 11 miles (18 km) from Cahuita, Puerto Viejo is accessible via Highway 36 or by simply walking south, along the beach.
San Jose
"Chepe," as the city is referred to by locals, is the capital city of Costa Rica and a hub for modern Costa Rican culture. It's also where most visitors depart for tours of central Costa Rica's volcanoes and coffee plantations. Before you leave, take a fun-filled tour of the city's monuments and parks, and maybe sample the burgeoning craft beer scene.
Cahuita
Cahuita is a laid back and vibrant little village in the setting of Costa Rica’s unique Creole culture, brought about by its Afro-Caribbean heritage. Only 27 miles (43 km) south of Puerto Limón, Cahuita is an easy drive down Highway 36 along the Caribbean coast, despite a few potholes here and there. It is assuredly a must-see destination for visitors already in the Limón Province. This village is a hit amongst the young and free-spirited, or those simply seeking the easy life for a few days.
Moments to look forward to
La Fortuna Waterfall
Located just 6 km outside the town of La Fortuna, this stunning waterfall provides visitors with a wonderful place to swim and relax. Situated at the base of the dormant Chato volcano amidst a thriving rain forest, the location for this waterfall couldn't get any better.
Arenal Volcano National Park
The Arenal Volcano National Park packs all of Costa Rica's allure into one place: incredible hiking, magnificent views, abounding wildlife and the country's most active volcano. Hiking and horseback riding tours allow you to get up close and personal with this incredible area, which encompasses close to 30,000 acres (12,000 ha) and extends into eight different life zones. Overlooking everything is the imposing Arenal Volcano which sits right inside this wonderful park.
Cahuita National Park
At 2,711 acres (1,097 ha), Cahuita National Park is small in size compared to its counterparts, yet up to par in terms of its animal, plant, and marine biodiversity. The park is much more regarded for its underwater portion than it is for its land attractions, which are certainly stunning in their own right. This national park enables visitors the ability to explore Cahuita's aquamarine costal waters complete with Costa Rica's largest costal reef.
