Come explore the beautiful Tortuga Island on this full-day tour. You'll enjoy lovely landscapes, tasty meals, and fun activities like swimming, snorkeling, and volleyball.

Tortuga Island is set off the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula. It's found within an archipelago that boasts islands with lush forests and white-sand beaches. These islands also act as a sanctuary for seabirds.

Tortuga Island is situated 12 nautical miles from Puntarenas. Known by locals as "Tolinga," the island covers approximately 300 acres (120 ha) and includes forests and beaches. The island has also been awarded the Ecological Blue Flag for more than five years; this award is given to pollution-free beaches in Costa Rica. Not surprisingly, the water here is clear and great for swimming.

The tour begins with bus transportation to Puntarenas from San José, Jacó, Guanacaste, and other parts of the country. While you're on the bus, you'll be served a breakfast snack. A bilingual guide accompanies you throughout the entire journey.

Once you reach Puntarenas, you'll board a yacht and sail through the Gulf of Nicoya to Tortuga Island. The trip takes about 1.5 hours. While you're on the boat you'll enjoy live music and snacks, including tropical fruit and ceviche.

You can partake in a variety of activities on the island, paying an extra fee directly to the tour provider once you arrive at the island. You might take out a glass-bottom kayak or water bike, or else grab some snorkeling equipment and try to spot some fish in the ocean (again, do note that some of these activities require an additional fee). You can play beach volleyball, and you can take leisurely walks along the island. Of course, you can also just relax on the beach and soak up the beautiful views.

Lunch is served on the island. This includes a salad appetizer and a main course of grilled fish and chicken, rice, and sautéed vegetables. Lunch also comes with white wine and a tasty dessert.

The tour departs Tortuga Island at 4:00 PM and arrives back in Puntarenas at 6:00 PM. The trip back to San José usually takes another 2.5 hours. The times to the other destinations will vary depending on where you are going.
