Experience Highlights
This tour begins with a float Peñas Blancas Safari Float. Your float moves at a steady pace so you can soak it all in. Monkeys, birds, long-nosed bats gambol in the nearby trees. Watch in awe as Jesus Christ lizards skitter across the surface of the water.
After you reach the dock you’ll enter the warm, friendly atmosphere of Doña Maras’ home. Your hosts will greet you with a homemade drink made of pineapple, orange, and coconut water. Before lunch, you’ll learn how to prepare to tortillas. Doña Maras serve a large meal alongside the fresh tortillas, all prepared on her traditional, wood-fired stove. This is a culinary as well as an immersive cultural experience — feel free to practice your Spanish with the Maras family if you feel so inclined.

Traveler Comments
The boat trip was wonderful and the guide (sorry, forgot his name) was very accommodating and sensitive to our 94-year old father. At the tortilla making and lunch, Dona Mara made us feel so welcome and as if we were her relatives. Exceeded expectations!!
Our guide was excellent in knowledge, expertise, and personality. The lunch & tortilla making in Mara's home was wonderful.
Really liked the Safari Float and the Tortilla making with Dona Mara. Carlos was a great guide.
